I am a painter focused mainly on figuration. My visual art practice sits alongside my work as a writer, games educator and academic.
As a child, I spent much of my time dreaming in the witch house. The Gothic continues to return in my work, where I use augmented reality, paint and charcoal as ways to conjure figurative imagery, drawing up the obscured and buried.
I am currently working with oils, from live models, looking intently at the ways that the human body interacts with space and light. This work is part of a wider exploration of the relationships between image-making, visual myths of agency and the realities of physical embodiment. I have been referring to past painting styles to help in my quest to recover a sense of the body as the first site of the real.
